Common Questions About Botox Treatments | London Wellness Group | London Chiropractic Clinic

One of the most popular medi spa anti-aging treatments in the world is Botox – in fact, it’s the single most popular beauty treatment in the US.

Since this anti-aging solution is so popular, you’re bound to come across it once you start thinking about how to fight the signs of aging.

So we’ve put together this quick FAQ to help you understand the benefits of botox, the potential risks, and whether it’s the best option for you.

What are the ingredients in Botox?

Botox is a dermal injectable with three simple ingredients.

First, human albumin, an element naturally found in your blood.

Next, sodium chloride, or simple salt.

Finally, the active ingredient – a tiny amount of botulinum toxin extracted and purified from clostridium botulinum, a bacterial strain.

Large doses of botulinum toxin is toxic, but in tiny amounts it can be used therapeutically.

What is Botox used for?

Botox can be used for several different purposes.

Its most famous role is aesthetically – Botox can be used to fight the signs of aging, including wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes, mouth, cheeks, and forehead.

But Botox can also be used to treat migraines, muscular issues, and even certain gastrointestinal issues.

To find out more about how you could use Botox for these issues, contact your family doctor – The London Wellness Group does not use Botox for these purposes.

How does Botox work?

Your face expresses the various emotions you feel on a daily basis.

This includes smiling, laughing, frowning, furrowing, squinting, crying, yawning and that awkward face you make just before you sneeze.

Whatever you do with your face, though, will add to its overall wear and tear.

Over the years, this will start to trigger those signs of aging we all strive to fight.

When you inject Botox into these muscles, you temporarily reduce their activity.

This smoothes out your skin’s imperfections, reducing wrinkles, laugh lines, crow’s feet, etc.

Is Botox safe?

There are hundreds of peer reviewed scientific articles on the safety and effectiveness of Botox, as well as millions of clinical trials.

Botox is not without its risks, but overall it has been proven incredibly safe.

What are Botox side effects?

The most common side effect of Botox is a drooping or swelling eyelid.

Other side effects may include dry, itchy eyes, a headache, dry mouth, neck pain, tiredness, or discomfort at the point of injection.

These side effects are generally mild, temporary, and fairly rare though. Most Botox patients report little to no discomfort.

This list is not exhaustive, and doesn’t take into consideration your unique skin care history and needs.

What should I expect with a Botox treatment?

The treatment itself is pretty quick – depending on your individual needs, it will take about ten minutes.

Most people report only very mild pain, about the same as a rubber band snapping lightly on the skin.

The recovery time is short, too – you can walk right out of our facility after getting Botox treatment and resume your day normally.

Depending on your skin type and goals, we'll give you specific aftercare instructions.

Is Botox the only dermal injectable?

Botox is a specific type of dermal injectable – a neuromodular injectable. As far as these injectables go, Xeomin is another example.

There is also another type of dermal injectable though, called a dermal filler.

The most popular example of this is Juvederm, though Belotero is another example.
