The Best Permanent Hair Removal Method: Laser Hair Removal Vs. Waxing

London Wellness Group

If you want smooth, silky skin without shaving daily, your best bet is to get a permanent hair removal treatment.

However, most people have a hard time deciding which treatment is the best one.

Should you go with the tried and true wax removal?

Or should you try a cutting edge laser hair removal treatment instead?

That's where this article comes in.

We'll take a look at the two most popular types of permanent hair removal treatments, and at the end you can choose the one that works best for you.

How They Work

When you get a waxing treatment, hot sticky wax is applied to the areas you want hairless.

Then the wax is removed, ripping the hair out by the roots.

Laser hair removal, on the other hand, works by shining a pulsing laser set at a specific wavelength on selected areas.

The laser damages the hair follicles and stops them from growing.

How Many Treatments Do You Need?

Getting your hair waxed only takes one treatment.

However, the hair will eventually grow back, although it will be lighter and finer than before.

Laser hair removal, on the other hand, will require anywhere from four to eight treatments before you start to see some results—but those results will be more permanent than if you got your hair waxed.

What are the Side Effects?

The biggest side effect associated with hair waxing is pretty simple—getting your hair ripped out by its roots can hurt.

Unfortunately, this is an inescapable part of waxing. Although the pain only lasts for a split second, it’s still not much fun.

Afterwards, the only side effects are some possible redness and irritation on the waxed area.

You might also get some acne or ingrown hairs as a result of the treatment.

In contrast, laser hair removal can seem gentler.

Most people who have had laser treatments only report a weak tingling feeling, and that can be taken care of by turning down the laser's intensity.

Afterwards, though, the treated areas might be red and swollen, and in rare cases you can experience minor burns.

hese side effects, though, are usually mild and temporary.

Which Parts of the Body can be Treated?

Both waxing and laser hair removal can be used on any part of your body.

Waxing, though, is not recommended for people with sensitive skin, or those whose skin is prone to tearing.

Laser hair removal, on the other hand, doesn’t work very well on fine vellus hairs, like the tiny hairs on a woman’s face – AKA peach fuzz.

Who are the Best Candidates?

Outside of people with sensitive skin, waxing is effective for anyone with hair.

Laser hair removal can work on anyone's hair, but it works best on people who have light skin and dark hair.

This combination absorbs the laser's light more efficiently, and makes for a more effective treatment.

However, most modern machines can treat people of any skin tone and hair colour.

To find out whether you’re a candidate for laser hair removal, it’s best to have a consultation with one of our laser technicians.

How do You Prepare for the Treatment?

Before you get your hair waxed, you should let hair in the are being treated grow out for at least two weeks.

Laser hair removal preparation is entirely the opposite: you'll want to arrive freshly shaven to make sure the hair follicle absorbs the laser light, not the hair itself.

It’s best to avoid the sun for at least a day or two before your treatment, and avoid heavy sun exposure for a few days.

Because of this, laser hair removal is generally more popular in the winter.

So Which Treatment is Best?

The real answer is: it depends.

Laser hair removal is the more cost effective and painless solution overall, but it is also more expensive and requires more treatments before you see results.

On the other hand, a waxing treatment costs less and only requires one treatment before you see results.

It's more painful than laser hair removal, though, and the hair will eventually regrow.

So if you’re looking for a long-term solution to remove your body hair, laser hair removal is the way to go.

When choosing a treatment, ask yourself how soon you need to see results, how many visits you'd like to make, how much discomfort you can take and what kind of cost you are comfortable with.

No matter what your choice, be sure to enjoy your new sleek look.

In a Car Accident? Talk to Your Chiropractor

Nothing ruins your day quite like being in a car accident.

Even if your vehicle is still drivable after the accident, you're looking at hundreds or thousands of dollars in damage—and that's if you're lucky.

Because you might have suffered damage, too.

If you're in a car crash, you might sustain head, neck, back or chest injuries, some of which might not be obvious immediately.

Fortunately, if you've been injured in a crash and need lower back or neck pain relief, a chiropractor can help.

Whiplash and You

If you've been in an auto accident, you've probably gotten whiplash.

This is the most common injury people get when in an accident, and it's the result of your head being jarred suddenly forward, backward or side to side.

Whiplash can cause a number of symptoms, including neck pain and stiffness, dizziness, blurred vision, arm pain, headaches and lower back pain.

To make matters worse, you may not feel the effects immediately.

Whiplash symptoms can be delayed for up to months before they manifest, and if they're left untreated the symptoms can easily become long-term aches and pains.

This is why it’s so important to go see a medical professional – in this case, your chiropractor and your family doctor – to determine the damage that may have been done.

How A Chiropractorcan Help

If you are suffering from whiplash, see a chiropractor.

Chiropractors specialize in treating the neck and spine, which makes them extremely well qualified to treat this kind of injury.

In order to get the best results, however, you need to see a chiropractor as soon as possible after the accident, even if you think you’re okay.

You may have several micro-tears in your muscles and ligaments as a result of the crash.

If they are left untreated, they will eventually become inflamed and start hurting.

What to Expect During Treatment

When you visit a chiropractor to get help after an accident, the first thing they will do is perform an initial exam to determine the extent of your injuries.

Since each case of whiplash is different, a chiropractor will also use the initial exam to determine the best course of treatment.

Your chiropractor has several options when deciding the best course of treatment.

Muscle relaxation and/or stimulation can be used to help deliver plenty of oxygen-rich blood to the injured areas to promote more effective healing.

Spinal adjustments will also correct any misalignments that have occurred as a result of the accident, and help to relieve the pressure on any nerves that have been compressed or pinched.

Furthermore, a chiropractor will also prescribe some exercises you can do to restore your range of motion and get mobile again.

They will also talk to you about your current lifestyle and recommend some changes to your habits and activities in order to limit the effects of your whiplash.
